Julie

Meet Julie, one of our Gnist participants

What started as a summer internship quickly became the beginning of her career in the company, driven by curiosity and a strong sense of belonging.

“I got to contribute to actual projects in the company, which made the experience exciting. When the summer ended, I knew this was a place I wanted to return to.”

Understanding the geology in our licences is fundamental. It underpins how we interpret the subsurface, place wells, extend field life, and make the right decisions throughout a field’s life cycle. At OKEA, geology is therefore a core discipline, and the starting point for Geology Trainee Julie Christoffersen’s career.

Julie Christoffersen is a Geology Trainee at OKEA, based in Bergen. Originally from Tønsberg, Julie discovered her interest in geology while studying at the University of Bergen. After completing a bachelor’s degree in Geoscience, she continued with a master’s in Geodynamics and Basin Analysis Studies.

Her connection with OKEA began after the first year of her master’s programme, when she applied for a summer internship at our Bergen office.

“Someone from my studies suggested OKEA, and when I read about the company, I found the focus on mid- and late-life fields really interesting”, Julie says. “From the very first interview, I felt there was a great atmosphere.”

During nine weeks as part of the subsurface department within the G&G team, Julie worked on real geological tasks and collaborated closely with experienced colleagues.

“I got to contribute to actual projects in the company, which made the experience exciting. When the summer ended, I knew this was a place I wanted to return to.”

The internship also proved valuable when she later worked on her master’s thesis, which focused on natural seepage of hydrocarbons in the Southern Norwegian North Sea.

“The workflows I learned in Petrel during my internship were useful. It gave me more confidence when interpreting seismic data and a better understanding of the Norwegian continental shelf.”

After graduating, Julie joined OKEA full-time as a Geology Trainee.
“I was very motivated to join the team permanently, so saying yes was an easy decision. I feel respected and supported here, and I get the opportunity to learn across disciplines, from reservoir and wells to drilling.”

Julie is also part of OKEA Gnist, a graduate pilot programme for employees with 0–2 years of work experience.

“The Gnist sessions have been really inspiring so far. It’s a great opportunity to build competence, get to know colleagues across the organisation, and make a smooth transition from student life to working life.”
